Updates!!

Got back from our visit today and got to hear the heartbeat! Fast and strong, I think we have a mountain biker on our hands! Everything is going great, the charts all look normal and blood tests from Heather came back great. Heathers morning sickness seems to be subsiding a little bit and she has been gaining strength too and not feeling as tired. It was magical to hear the heartbeat. I still can't believe how blessed I feel. God is great!

7/25/05 update

Sitting up at my parents house, Heather suddenly yells out and almost drops the book she is reading. "I just felt something, I think I just felt a kick!!" That was the first time our baby made itself known to us and it was awesome. I still haven't been able feel it, but I keep trying. Heather has been feeling more and more kicks recently and we have a feeling it is just the beginning!!

8/3/05 update

We had our first ultrasound today! It is a beautiful, perfect baby girl! I can't describe the feeling I have right now. I feel elated, overwhelmed and so in love. I can't wait to meet this beautiful baby. Here are some pictures. The first one is her feet and the second ones are her being shy, hiding behind her hands.

Just had another visit and everything is perfect. Heather is doing great and Chloe is growing well. She is 32 cm in size now (or at least that is what Heather measures) and today I felt her head. Dr Sheik was palpating Heather and felt the head, back and arms and legs. We had a scare a couple of days ago when it was thought Heather might have Gestational Diabetes but it was a false alarm. We didn't discover this until Heather had a nasty test involving drinking three glasses of a glucose mix that we think are designed to make you sick! She was awesome though and charged through. We move to a visit every two weeks as Heather is in her 7 month now! Time flies.

Had our first birthing class tonight. All the class has done for me so far is make me more excited and anxious for Chloe to get here! It is a 6 week long class focusing breathing, birth techniques and much much more. Chloe is also starting make herself more known to us. We are getting way more than the little butterfly kicks we were feeling in the beginning. These are full on kicks and punches. She is a very active little girl. We are able to identify some of the parts we are feeling too!

What a stressful few weeks. Chloe gave us a scare about two weeks ago at a regular checkup. She had a rather low heart rate. Normal heart rate is between 120 and 160. She was around 105, bouncing to 95. This concerned the midwife enough to put Heather on the monitor and take a look at Chloe's heart rate for 20 minutes. Chloe stayed low but the reassuring thing was that everytime she moved, the heart rate would adjust accordingly. This was a good sign. Regardless, we were asked to come back later that week for another session on the monitor. We left not liking what had just happend. Everything had been going perfect up to this point, couldn't it just continue to be perfect? We had another couple of monitor sessions, and Chloe didn't always cooperate. Sometimes her heart rate was low, sometimes it was fine. After a few stressful sessions it was determined that she is both a sound sleeper and a strong athlete. Okay I added the last part. So the good news, everything is fine, and I have lots more ultrasound pictures. I will try to get them up soon. They are a little difficult to make out as compared to the first lot, Chloe has grown a lot and doesn't fit in the picture anymore, you may see a foot, or a stomach, or a head! Here is a picture of my beautiful wife. 8 months pregnant and I think she looks gorgeous!

We are in the countdown. Heather is full term and Chloe could come at any moment. We are 38 weeks now. Heather is really tired all the time and we are both anxious for her to come quickly! We can't wait to meet her and just want to hold her. Here are some pictures of Heather. Not bad for 9 months!

Well, this page has come to an end. It has been really fun to share with everyone the blessing Heather has carried for the past nine months but she is here now and wants to meet everyone. Head over here and say hello to the newest member of the Merrick family. Chloe Mae Merrick was born on December 27th at 10:01 P.M. She weighed 7lbs 8oz and was 20.5 inches long. We can't get over how much we love her!
